TIGRIS

UNITED KINGDOM / EXPERIMENTAL / 5'53" / 2021

“Water, as a fundamental and essential element to life, carries a wealth of associations. It has the power to connect with the depth of the memory, where the past and the present mingle together. During one of my lockdown walks, I stumbled on an intriguing canal lock at Lee Valley in north London. The lock created a gripping sound as it formed two waterfalls, gushing and merging into the lower basin of canal. The experience evoked many thoughts and memories; the flow of the two great rivers Tigris and Euphrates interweaving in the plain and mountains of Mesopotamia before linking in south of Iraq, the power and manipulation manifested with control over the flow of the river in building large dams, the panorama of devastation witnessed on my last visit to the old part of city of Mosul.”
